As a first post on any blog one is always stumped as to how to begin. So here I am. Unsure of how to begin. Let me first start by telling you all a little about myself.
My name is Matt Wong, I’m a Kendo 2-dan (soon to be 3 I hope!) and a member of Kenyukai Kendo Dojo in Honolulu, Hawaii. My hobbies include (obviously) kendo, reading, writing, kyudo, caring for my dog (or goggie as I like to refer to them as), motorcycles, and other forms of stupidity.
I am one of the lead coordinators and editors of a Kendo website called KendoKorner.com which is an informational kendo website started up early this year. To help add some personality to KendoKorner.com I was recommended by other editors to start up this blog. To start with, here is a copy of some of the announcments KendoKorner has made:
KendoKorner’s Plans for Fall 2009!
At this moment, our staff is currently working on a Kendo Etiquette section, a Beginner’s Tips section, a video section, blog-ring, as well as a Dojo listing section. We are also adding new content to our current categories with a focus on Equipment Care, Kendo Concepts, and our Bushido Theory section. If you have any suggestions, tips, or comments please feel free to leave them here or on the comments section of KendoKorner.com. You can find the contact page here .
Announcing our upcoming Kendo Apparel/Paraphernalia store
Have you ever had the desire to express your love for kendo through what you wear? Soon you will have the chance! KendoKorner.com will soon be teaming up with artists around the world to bring you a very wide selection of kendo apparel including shirts, jackets, coffee mugs, and even calendars.
Our Mission to You
We believe that information about Kendo should be free and available to all. Granted, we are a commercial organization– however our primary purpose is to provide you (our audience) with top quality kendo information for free in a convenient and easy to use website.

Note from the Editor (that’s me!)
Early in the month of June, the laptop where all of the kendo content, pictures, and materials were stored leapt to its doom! In other words, the computer fell off the desk and everything on the hard-drive was wiped… and the last time everything was backed up was early May.
But do not worry! Most of the content has been rewritten, the pictures retaken, and the master-plan has been put back into action! The going will be slow, as the overall layout plan of kendokorner was also lost with the content, but we will progress slowly but surely.
To those of you who check in on us every now and then, this is the reason there has been no new materials in 2-3 months. Now that everything has been rewritten and remade, we can start chugging towards our goals once again!
Thank you all for your patience!

I wanted to make clear that it isn’t my intention to make KendoKorner seem snobish or stuck-up. In fact, it is the opposite. I and the other staff members of KendoKorner are still (relatively) beginners at kendo with experience ranging from 12 years to 4. Now, if you’ve been doing kendo for 1-3 years, it’s not that I consider you a beginner! This is merely how I judge myself in this area. After 12 years, I have barely scratched the surface of what there is to learn about kendo.
I noticed that, while there is a lot of excellent kendo information throughout the net, a lot of the material is spread all over the place. The purpose of KendoKorner is to conglomerate that information in a convenient easy to use website.
Now that I’ve done enough advertising on that subject, let me say that I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts and ideas about kendo, the website, and this blog!
Ciao,
Matt
